When I was bringing in the garbage and recycling cans today, I noticed a nasty odor coming from the blue garbage can. I knew that if I didn’t take care of it today, it would only get worse! I decided to take on the absolutely DISGUSTING task of using blue Dawn dish soap and the hose and cleaned that bad boy out! After that, I still had flies lingering around… so I decided to turn to my sister’s doTERRA Essential Oils. (Thanks, Bridge, I put them back in your room!) These highly concentrated oils are like magic in a bottle for little tips and tricks around your home.
I looked up what I could do to 1. Keep flies out and away from the garbage cans and 2. Keep a sparking clean can fresh and smelling good. I was in luck because I found some answers! Peppermint and Spearmint oils can be the solution! They deter pests such as flies, moths, ants, and other creepy crawlers.
If you are having the same summer problem, get some doTERRA Essential oils (they are worth every penny) and sprinkle a couple of drops in the following places: 1.Around the lid and rim (I even did some on the outside of the lid for good measure) 2. Inside on the walls, and 3. At the bottom of the can.
This will help make taking out the garbage a “less disgusting” task.
You can also use a cotton ball to help keep pests away. Pour 2-3 drops of the oil on the cotton ball, tuck the cotton ball in a crack, storage area, cupboard, or wherever you are finding little pests. Other oils that can be used are eucalyptus, rosemary, and citrus oils!
